About Borderlines

Borderlines Carlisle Book Festival

Dates TBC

Borderlines is a not-for-profit event, now in its 8th year, run by volunteers who believe in community – and the joy of words. We deliver a Festival that balances bringing major national and international names to Carlisle with celebrating and showcasing fantastic local talent. We also run events and activities that encourage and inspire individual creativity.

Borderlines Book Festival has been developed through partnership working between public and private enterprises.

Borderlines is a not-for-profit organisation and has a fully constituted steering group. Every penny goes back into supporting the festival

The steering group members are:

Our Festival Producer Lee Randall creates our programme. In 2022 this was supported by Bookends, our festival booksellers. Our media partner is Cumbria Life who promote the festival extensively in their magazine.

We have an amazing group of volunteers who support with programme distribution and event stewarding – a huge thank you to you all.

We are also very fortunate to be supported by a wide number of fantastic chairpersons. This includes Roger Bolton, presenter of Radio 4’s Feedback programme, who supports us at Borderlines every year with expert interviewing and chairing.

The success of the festival always relies on the financial support of our sponsors and funders. We appreciate and acknowledge their support which ensures the continued viability of the festival.

Awards

Event of the Year Finalist at Cumbria Life Culture Awards 2015, 2016 and 2018 and Winner of the Culture City Award 2017 at Carlisle Living Awards.
