Joanne Harris

The Strawberry Thief

Bestselling author Joanne Harris talks about her life and career and her return to writing about her best-known characters from Chocolat. Her new novel The Strawberry Thief has been written twenty years on since she first introduced us to Vianne Rocher, her daughters and her fellow villagers in Lansquenet-sous-Tannes. Joanne will be in conversation with BBC Arts producer, Serena Field

Joanne Harris was born in Barnsley, of a French mother and an English father. She was educated at Cambridge and was a teacher for many years. She has written several novels, screenplays, a musical  and  three cookbooks. In 2000, her million-selling novel Chocolat was adapted to the Oscar-nominated film starring Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp. Joanne is an Honorary Fellow of St Catherine’s College, Cambridge, and in 2013 was awarded an MBE.

The theme of chocolate continues with the next event in the programme tonight.
