Emma Darwin

Memoir, Life-Writing and (Auto)biographical Fiction

Writing about real lives and experiences – your own, or someone else’s – is rewarding but also daunting. How do you fill the gaps? What if there’s too much information? How do you keep the reader reading? In this practical workshop we will explore how to set about shaping and developing real-life material into a satisfying story.

Emma Darwin’s debut novel, The Mathematics of Love, was nominated for both Commonwealth Writers’ Best First Book, and RNA Novel of the Year; her memoir, This is Not a Book About Charles Darwin, was published in February. She has a PhD in Creative Writing and blogs at This Itch of Writing.
