Alan Johnson in conversation with Stuart Maconie

In My Life

In the same tradition as This Boy, (Alan Johnson’s first award winning memoir), In My Life vividly transports us to a world no longer with us - a world of Dansettes and jukeboxes, of smoky coffee bars and dingy dance halls, of heart-felt love songs and heartbroken ballads. Alan Johnson's life has always had a musical soundtrack and who better than Stuart Maconie to talk with Alan and find out how and why music has been such an integral part of his life.

Alan Johnson served as Home, Health and Education Secretaries in the Blair and Brown governments. He was Shadow Chancellor until 2011 and recently led the Remain campaign for the Labour Party. His first book, This Boy, won the RSL Ondaatje prize and the Orwell Prize in 2013. Please Mr Postman won the National Book Award for Autobiography of the Year 2014.

Stuart Maconie is a writer and broadcaster familiar to millions from his books and the radio. He currently hosts the afternoon show on BBC 6 music. He is the author of several best-selling books, including the music- based  Cider with Roadies and The People’s Songs.

Stuart Maconie  also appears at Borderlines on Saturday 6th October at 8pm with a talk on his most recent book The Long Road from Jarrow.
