Sir Chris Bonington is Britain’s premier mountain man. To celebrate the publication of his new autobiography, Ascent, Chris, in conversation with Radio 4 journalist Eric Robson, will reflect on his climbing career, as well as share memories of his life spent with his late wife Wendy, their struggles and triumphs, and her battle against the cruel Motor Neuron Disease.
Chris Bonington, the mountaineer, writer, photographer and lecturer, started climbing at the age of 16 in 1951. It has been his passion ever since. He made the first British ascent of the North Wall of the Eiger and led the expedition that made the first ascent of The South Face of Annapurna, the biggest and most difficult climb in the Himalaya at the time His career has included nineteen expeditions to the Himalayas, including four to Mount Everest.
