In this beautifully illustrated talk, Jenny Uglow  explores the genius of Edward Lear , creator of ‘The Owl and the Pussy Cat’ and ‘The Dong with a Luminous Nose’, revealing him too as a  great natural history artist, restless traveller and fine landscape painter – and a complex,  funny,  loveable man.

Jenny Uglow's prize-winning books include lives of Elizabeth Gaskell, William Hogarth, Thomas Bewick and Sarah Losh , and group studies, The Lunar Men and her last book  In These Times: Living in Britain through Napoleon’s Wars, as well as the classic Little History of British Gardening. She grew up in Cumbria and  lives in Canterbury and Seatoller.
