The workshop will begin by exploring the nature of news and trying to come up with a definition. The group will then have a go at writing a news story against the clock. The session will end with a discussion about the future of newspapers (if there is one…) It would be useful to bring a laptop if possible.
David Ward worked for regional newspapers in Northumberland, Wiltshire and Newcastle before joining the Guardian. He spent 33 years on the paper covering major news stories and also wrote play reviews, features and travel pieces. Since 2008 he has been literary consultant at Theatre by the Lake in Keswick. He was also commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company to write an account of the reconstruction of the theatre in Stratford.
